Garam Goddess was born in 2020 out of a desire to start sharing with whoever will partake, a nostalgic creation of Indian flavors combined with a familiar condiment - hot sauce.

India doesn't have hot sauce!

I grew up in Bombay (Mumbai), India. With its 22 million people, its at its chaotic, democratic best when it eats! Mumbai is colorful, crowded and intense and amidst all the hubbub, every street corner has a chai stand and a food cart serving savory and spicy delights keeping pace with the fast moving Mumbaikers. My mama and nani (grandma) are both phenomenal cooks and my love for cooking comes directly from them. As a kid, my lunchbox was often stolen before lunch break at school and as a young adult, my friends would find every opportunity to invite themselves over for a spicy meal. Given India is known for its spice and spicy food, this comes as a surprised to many - India doesn’t have hot sauce!

I didn't try to make my own until 2012.

Fast forward to 2008, moving to NYC I was instantly introduced to the condiment that adorns my every meal, hot sauce! Tabasco came first and then slowly a shelf in my shared rental apartment fridge was filled with a variety of options. When walking through Union Square Market one summer afternoon, I met with a vendor at a farm stand with the most colorful pile of peppers. I bought by first habanero peppers there and in that same week went back for scotch bonnet, cheery and ghost peppers. I haven't stopped playing with sauce recipes since that week!

You should sell this!

In January 2020, Garam Goddess LLC was born and for the last couple of years I have learned so much! The food community has already given me its share of surprises and challenges. I have primarily been selling my hot sauces online. I am on the shelves of 9 specialty stores as of May 2022 and have a couple of pop ups and a farmers market under my belt! Watching strangers taste and fall in love with my hot sauce has been the most incredible and humbling moment and one that keeps me going to bring my sauces to as many people as I can!
